About Us

Fayetta Allen
Founder and Executive Director.

The Young Harmonies of Houston was founded in 2008 by Ms. Fayetta Allen. The mission of the Young Harmonies is to develop and nurture the musical talents of economically disadvantaged youth throughout the city. The organization is a choral group of gifted singers ages 9-16.

It is our belief that teaching these youth performance and musical skills will stimulate their intellectual and artistic growth. YHH members sing diverse genres of music that include gospel, classical, r&b and world music. They also learn music history and music theory.

They have performed at diverse venues including the Houston Children’s Museum, the 2012 Houston International Festival, the African-American Museum of Culture, The Breakfast Klub, the Children’s Festival, Discovery Green, and various churches. Plans are to expand, offer cultural field trips, and college scholarships.

Ms. Fayetta Allen has been a music teacher in the public schools for 15 years. She is a singer, pianist, and composer.  She graduated from Dillard University and the University of Pittsburgh.  She is a chorus member of the Houston Ebony Opera Guild and a gospel choir director.

Ms. Allen arranges and directs the music of the Young Harmonies of Houston. She can be reached at 832-453-9906.
